Bio
Thomas’ music journey started in 2010, beginning piano under the tutelage of Catherine Curr. Learning in Regional NSW, Tom enjoyed performing in concerts and competitions in his area.
High school allowed Tom to expand his musical tastes, and he began to specialise in double and electric bass, as well as mallet and marching percussion. He was given opportunities to participate in workshops with renowned musicians and youth orchestras, and has since learnt to gain a high level of performance credibility. In addition, he completed his AMEB Comprehensive Piano Practical and Theory Exams in Year 12 under the direction of Vivienne Winther, and is currently working towards his AMusA Diploma.
He has been a bandleader of a variety of musical groups, ranging from jazz to liturgical to rock, and he fully understands the expectations required for excellence in making and directing music.
Today, Tom is continuing his music education with a Bachelor of Music (Music Education) in Classical Piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and studies under Clemens Leske.
Tutoring & AMS
Tom began tutoring in 2019, and in that time has had the pleasure to guide several students to success in their personal musical ventures, both in and out of the AMEB Exam Syllabus. Most of his students who complete exams receive scores above 90%, and all students – regardless of syllabus – find fulfilling opportunities to perform and share the love for music Tom helps to instil and develop.
Tom’s pedagogical approach to music is founded in enjoyable moments, sharing of emotion, and pursuance of excellence in a nurturing way. He is the Leader of the Piano Curriculum with Accelerando.
